Staff Appreciation Week Thank You

"Everybody Get Footloose" Walk-a-Thon 2012
    Walk-a-Thon History Sunny Hills Elementary is the oldest elementary school on the Issaquah Plateau and our PTA was established in 1979.  The Sunny Hills PTA has hosted an annual Walk-a-Thon since 1984.  It is our primary active fundraiser, but most importantly it is a fun, family event in which the entire student body participates!     The 2012 Science Fair was a BIG success due to the wonderful student entries, dedicated parent and staff support, and amazing volunteers. The fair encouraged students to be creative and explore the wonders of science. The student projects were fantastic and it was fun to see our young scientists in action. And the Barnes & Noble Bookfair total is......
Thank you for participing in the Sunny Hills' Barnes and Noble Bookfair last month.  Because of your support, our library received a percentage of the total sales that day, which totaled $564.86!!  This is incredible!  Mrs. Ensey is using the money to replace outdated books, as well as update the video library.  Barnes and Noble even commented on how successful our day was, saying it was one of the best shows of support they had ever seen.   It's time for the Sunny Hills Science Fair, Thursday, March 1 Our PTA-sponsored Science Fair is a noncompetitive annual event that displays student science projects in the Sunny Hills gym. Science fair projects can take many forms, ranging from experiments utilizing the scientific method to nature collections. Individual students or small groups are invited to submit "self-explanatory" entries that they prepare at home. Students are not expected to present their projects during the fair. A Life Saving Donation
In addition to Valentine's Day, the month of February is also American Heart Health Awareness Month!   As a result, we wanted to share a photo taken at the start of the school year, when Sunny Hills was given a life saving donation of an Automatic External Defribrilator (AED) .   An AED is a portable device that delivers an electric shock through the chest to restart a heart that has stopped beating.     Do you have all the information you need about the upcoming bond package that will rebuild Sunny Hills ?   At its September 28 business meeting, the school board is planning to finalize the bond package that will go before voters in February 2012. Emergency Supply Kits
  The school district provides basic first aid supplies for use in the event of an extended emergency, but does not budget in for anything else. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT EACH STUDENT HAVE AN EMERGENCY SUPPLY KIT/48-HOUR KIT that includes food, water, blankets, lights, etc. The PTA purchases the supplies for these kits each year for use at school in the event of an emergency. These kits are stored in each classroom and specialist room, and allergy issues are taken into account whenever possible. The cost of updating these supplies is $6 per student each year.
